Media is proving, once again, that it is the most powerful propaganda tool in the world. With the recent flu outbreaks, the States have seen widespread infection and a dwindling supply of flu shots. How can this be? If everyone is getting the flu shot, then why are so many becoming infected?

It’s All about Perspective
About 20 years ago, I was going through what I believed to be a tough time. I had been in practice for about a year and had just spent a lot of money to expand my office space and buy new equipment. I’d bought a new home and car and was being audited by the IRS. I was about to get married, so I had a honeymoon to Hawaii and two diamond rings to pay for. In addition, my soon –to-be wife had a son from a previous marriage, so I was also taking on that responsibility. I’d hired two new staff members and a new doctor, but my practice suddenly dropped to 20 percent of what it had been. I felt really stressed, and went out to see my father. We were sitting in the front yard, and he asked me, “How’s it going, son? You look a little tense.”
“I’m stressed as hell, Dad.”
“What’s going on?”
So I went through the whole list and said, “I’m totally over whelmed. It’s like it all hit me at once.”
I wanted him to say, “Gee, son, you poor thing. Boy, you’re strong! I couldn’t handle all that,” but he didn’t. Instead, he said, “Son, don’t you realize what you have? Your mother and I have been married for 32 years and we never got to go on a honeymoon, and you’re going to Hawaii, the dream place we always wanted to see. You have a bigger home and more cars right now than we have after all that time. We only had gold bands; I never got to give your mom a diamond until I was in business for 25 years. You already have a beautiful son who’s healthy. You have a great office that you’re expanding – at least you’ve made money to pay taxes on – you’re hiring and employing people, and you have one of the fastest-growing practices in Texas. You’re marrying someone you love and going on a dream trip and growing your business – you’re doing more in your first year than I did in 32 years. That doesn’t sound like stressings to me, son; it sounds like blessings. I wish I was in that boat.”
When he said that, I thought to myself, Hmm! Maybe it’s just a perspective game. There is a balance, and sometimes we stress because we deny the other side. Everything that happens is just an event that, if taken out of context, could be seen as terrible or terrific. There is pleasure with every pain and they’re exactly equal. The bigger the pain, the bigger the pleasure that comes with it. We’re going to get both no matter what we do, so it might as well be in the pursuit of our dreams.

An aspirin a day?
No thanks. I don't think our bodies were created with an aspirin deficiency. Now it looks like daily aspirin can cause cancer.
