This Month's Specials:
THE LAW OF LIFE
By Arno Burnier D.C.
Throughout the course of history many universal laws have been uncovered: the law of gravity, the law of aerodynamics, the laws of electricity, physics, and chemistry, to name a few. Some 100 years ago the human law of life was uncovered. The law states that matter cannot move without energy and that as energy enters matter, matter expands and contracts depending upon which part of the energy wave permeates it. This is readily observed in all human tissues and functions. From mastication to swallowing, from breathing to digestion, from bowel movement to urination, there is a constant expansion and contraction of tissues.
The law also states that life energy flows from above down and inside out. As long as there is a free flow of life energy, there is a normal rate of expansion/contraction, which leads to free life expression and wellness. When the life energy flow is altered, the rate of expansion/contraction is also altered. This is commonly referred to as "hypo-" or "hyper-" function whether that abnormal function is physical, mental or emotional. (Hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, hypotension, etc.) The common approach is to treat the condition from the outside in by attempting to bring hypo up or hyper down, without ever knowing what ideal is in that specific individual. This may suppress symptoms but it does not and cannot restore the law of life.
The law of life can only be restored by correcting the basic fundamental underlying cause of interference to the flow of life: a nerve system which tone has been altered by vertebral subluxations caused by physical, chemical or emotional overload. As the nerve system is cleared, perception of reality becomes brighter, adaptation to the environment facilitated and recovery from stress normalized. Wellness, the natural normal state of being, returns.
The essence of life lies within, waiting to be freed so as to align the individual with the wave of life. The clearing out of the nerve system is a process that brings the individual into growth, transformation and development from the inside out. The inherent drive of life is always toward more and greater expression. When life within is freed, our armor melts from the inside out and we are able to express the totality of ourselves.
This is a journey available to everyone willing to go beyond the limitation of his or her established beliefs and conceptions about Chiropractic.
It's Reality
While snowboarding alone at Whistler a couple of weekends ago I was listening to a discussion the ladies on the lift were having. They where talking about "reality", how they had to do this and that because of "reality". So what is "reality"? Well, the snow was heavy that day and the runs were un-groomed. A person I was with hated the conditions, her "reality" of the ski conditions was a negative experience, whereas I thought the conditions were excellent - same day, same conditions - different "reality". There are so many more examples of judgmental "reality", all of which remind us of the lens through which we view the world. I am blown away by people who use "reality" as an excuse for tragedy, living conditions, occupation, relationships, etc. "Reality" is what you make of it. This was again brought to light in the amazing movie, "What The Bleep..", where a chiropractor talks about his daily ritual to help manifest his "reality". My question to you: What is YOUR "reality"? Do you blame "reality"? Is your "reality" movie a comedy, a tragedy, an action adventure, a romance, a romantic tragedy or do you try to keep the lens as open and clear as possible to allow an endless possibility of creation? Personally, when I adjust, I suspend "reality" - I push the pause button so the people getting adjusted have the potential of endless possible outcomes of "reality", be it instant healing, evolution of self and nerve system or a band aid. For whatever they wish to manifest is their choice and it is their movie of their "reality".

The Dash
I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end. he noted that first fame the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said that what mattered most of all was the "dash" between those years. For the dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we own: The cars, the house, the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left (you could be at "dash mid-range"). If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy's being read with our life's actions to rehash would you be proud of the things they said about how you spent your dash?

Exercise linked to big drop in dementia risk
22:00 16 January 2006
NewScientist.com news service
Regular exercise may reduce the risk of dementia and
Alzheimer’s disease in the elderly by as much as 40%, according to a new study.
And the effect is even more pronounced for those who are more frail, say the
researchers.
The US team, at Group Health Cooperative in Seattle, studied
a group of 1740 people aged 65 or over, all of whom began the study with good
cognitive function.
The participants reported how many days per week they had
exercised for 15 minutes or more, in activities varying from walking to
callisthenics to swimming. Their physical function was also recorded, including
grip strength and walking speed. Each was evaluated again every two years and
tests were performed to determine whether they had developed dementia.
After six years, 158 people in the group had developed
dementia, and 107 of these had Alzheimer’s. But those who had exercised at least
three times a week were on average 38% less likely to have developed dementia
than those exercising less than three times a week.
Unknown mechanism
“Those who had scored the lowest on the physical function
tests, showed the most marked reduction in risk of dementia if they exercised,”
says Paul Crane, one of the research team, from the University of Washington in
Seattle. Amongst those with good levels of exercise, “people who scored 10 out
of 16 in the physical tests had an average 42% reduction in risk of dementia,
compared to 25% for those who scored 12 out of 16."
He adds: “Our study group was fairly fit and healthy compared
to the average population, so the benefits of exercise could be even greater for
less fit people.”
Crane says the biological mechanism behind the results is
unknown, but that it may result from exercise causing a reduction in vascular
disease.
“It could be that these people are still developing plaques
[deposits in the brain which cause Alzheimer’s] but exercise is stopping them
from having strokes – so they are not showing clinical symptoms of dementia,” he
told New Scientist.
Subclinical deterioration
Other studies into the relationship between exercise and
dementia have shown mixed results. But previous studies have not excluded the
possibility that participants with lower exercise levels at the start undertook
less physical activity because they were already suffering from early,
subclinical cognitive deterioration.
Laura Podewils at the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, US, and co-author of an editorial accompanying
the study, says the team behind the new research made a great effort to avoid
this bias. "It is also the first study to report an interaction between the
level of physical function and physical activity and dementia risk,” she says.
However, Podewils points out that it remains uncertain
whether this association is causal or whether physical activity is more likely
among people with other behaviours that reduce dementia risk.
“People who exercise tend to be more socially active, which
enhances cognitive activity. We need randomised trials to establish the
relationship, but nonetheless exercise undoubtedly has extensive health
benefits,” she says.
