"Appreciation is a powerful tool to shift perspective. Finding something to appreciate during a difficult situation quickly moves the perspective to the big picture from the little picture."
-- From Chaos to Coherence, Doc Childre and Bruce Cryer

"Our cells are constantly eavesdropping on our thoughts and being changed by them. A bout of depression can wreak havoc with the immune system; falling in love can boost it. Despair and helplessness raise the risk of heart attacks and cancer, thereby shortening life. Joy and fulfillment keep us healthy and extend life. This means that the line between biology and psychology can't really be drawn with any certainty. A remembered stress, which is only a wisp of thought, releases the same flood of destructive hormones as the stress itself."-- Deepak Chopra

A Native American Inspiration

 I Want to Know You

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your life's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have been shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you're telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself, if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray you own soul. I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty everyday, and if you can source your life from God's presence. I want to know if you can live with the failure, yours or mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, 'Yes'!

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.  I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Stress

Our cells are constantly eavesdropping on our thoughts and being changed by them. A remembered stress, which is only a wisp of thought, releases the same flood of destructive hormones as the stress itself.

  -- Deepak Chopra

Comment:  Deepak hits the nail on the head with this quote.  It's as if Deepak has come to one of my "Life Adjusted" talks.  The last line, "A remembered stress, which is only a wisp of thought, releases the same flood of destructive hormones as the stress itself." embodies B.G.I.  Stored tension (stress) greatly effects healing and performance.  Research has proven that cells store stress and have also proven that when you are happy, the cells in your big toe are happy.  This is why when you receive an adjustment, you feel it all over.  Tension (stress) is released and integrated so your body doesn't have to deal with it again.  Think of chicken pox.  If a person with chicken pox fully integrates the virus into their body and immune system, the immune system will have learned from the experience and you will never have chicken pox again.  However, if your were under stress at the time of chicken pox or your body was unable to integrate the virus, it will show up later in life as chicken pox or shingles.  You tell me which is better - do you want to always experience and learn the same lesson or do you want to grow and evolve?

Mercury
So most of us have amalgam fillings.  Ever notice the dentist treating the amalgam like hazardous waste, it kind of un-nerves you just like the x-ray technician who ducks behind a lead wall just before your body gets bombarded by mutating gamma rays.  As with all articles and research I put in this newsletter, check out the facts for yourself and come to your own conclusion.  Having said that, check out what the University of Calgary did:  http://commons.ucalgary.ca/mercury

The 33 Principles
R.W. Stephenson and B.J. Palmer laid down the 33 Principles of Chiropractic in the early 1900's.  Chiropractic is based on these principles and we are going to list all 33 - two at a time.

#1 - The Major Premise ~ A universal intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence.

#2 - The Chiropractic Meaning of Life.

The expression of this intelligence through matter is the chiropractic meaning of life.

Meaning:  Chiropractic's sole purpose is to remove interference so your body's intelligence can be fully expressed resulting in Health, Healing & Life!

#3 - The Union of Intelligence and Matter.

Life is necessarily the union of intelligence and matter.

Meaning:  Without matter (physical) there is no life.  Without intelligence there is no life.

#4 - The Triune of Life.
Life is a triunity having three necessary united factors, namely: Intelligence, Force and Matter.

Meaning:  A living thing must consist of physical (matter), mental (intelligence) and spirit (force).
#5 - The Perfection of the Triune.
In order to have 100% Life, there must be 100% Intelligence, 100% Force, 100% Matter.

Meaning:  To express 100% Life Force, physical, spiritual and mental processes must be at 100%

#6. The Principle of Time.
There is no process that does not require time.

Meaning:  This is a Universal Principal - applies to healing, growing, dying, etc...
#7. The Amount of Intelligence in Matter.
The amount of intelligence for any given amount of matter is 100%, and is always proportional to its requirements.

Meaning:  Your body always has 100% intelligence and if you should loose an organ or limb the intelligence will remain at 100% even though the intelligence in that organ or limb is removed.
#8. The Function of Intelligence.
The function of intelligence is to create force.

Meaning:  Innate Intelligence maintains the human body in order for Life Force to exist.

Book Excerpt - 'Synchronicity: the Inner Path of Leadership' by Joseph Jaworski

"I realised that small changes at just the right place can have a system wide impact because these changes share the unbroken wholeness that unites the whole system.  A seemingly insignificant act in one part of the whole creates nonlocal results that emerge far away.  Unseen connections create effects at a distance - "quantum leaps" - in places quite surprising to us."  (Thanks Vicky for this month's Book Excerpt)

Comment:  The similarities of the outer environment and inner environment are truly amazing.  Joseph Jaworski is talking about synchronicity and how there are no mistakes or accidents in life only "unseen connections".  This idea also fits in to B.G.I. (what I do at the Café of Life).  With every adjustment in "places quite surprising to us", "unseen connections" to your stored tension are released and integrated.  These "small changes" (light adjustments) at "just the right place can have a system wide impact because these changes share the unbroken wholeness that unites the whole system."  Countless times I am asked, "How could one little touch effect tension in a different location and be so powerful?"  Read the above quote again and see if it answers your question.

May's Studies

Fighting Infertility at the Chiropractor
Infertility. If you haven't struggled with it yourself, chances are you know someone who wants to become pregnant but can't. Now, there's surprising new research that may crack the case and offer some couples new hope.

Comment:  One of the most common heard phrases that makes chiropractors laugh is when they overhear an expecting mother say, "my chiropractor got me pregnant".  This is not true (in the literal sense)!  Many people are seeking chiropractic adjustments for infertility reasons because it is affordable, it works and it doesn't screw with nature (quintuplets, sextuplets, etc...).  The chiropractic adjustment is meant to allow a greater expression of Life Force and Innate Intelligence, period, end of sentence.  Furthermore, the side effects of the adjustment are boundless - symptomatic relief (scientifically proven), performance (scientifically proven), immune boosting (scientifically proven), fertility (soon to be scientifically proven), etc...  By no means is there one specific adjustment or technique that can do all these things, only your Innate Intelligence and Life Force can do all these things.  Chiropractic has tapped into releasing the tension prohibiting a greater expression of Life Force and with each adjustment, you are able to express the pure beauty you were meant to express.

Green Tea's Benefits

Researchers at Kyushu University in Japan set out to examine the means by which green tea has been shown to help protect against several cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer. About one third of the dry weight of green tea leaves is made up of a flavonoid called catechin. And the most abundant of the four types of green tea catechins is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which also happens to be the component of green tea that has been shown to inhibit tumor cell growth.

In trying to understand the mechanism that makes EGCG effective, the Kyushu Team focused its attention on a type of cancer receptor cell known as 67 LR. Many cancer tumors produce large amounts of this cell, which senses chemicals and responds with electrical signals. Scientists believe that 67 LR is one of the key agents that helps cancer spread throughout the body. Using lung cancer cells, the researchers observed that cell growth was inhibited by exposure to EGCG at concentrations that would equal just three cups of green tea. The Kyushu researchers believe their work reveals that EGCG binds to 67 LR cells and prevents them from prompting tumor growth.

Just days after the Kyushu study was released, another study of EGCG was reported in the journal, Blood. Researchers from the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, examined the interaction between EGCG from green tea and cancer cells taken from 10 patients diagnosed with the most common type of leukemia: B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).  This research also involved a receptor cell, called VEGF, which nurtures growth in leukemia. Researchers found that EGCG suppressed the VEGF mechanism, inhibiting the growth of new blood vessels necessary for cancer proliferation. In 8 of the 10 samples, EGCG prompted the death of cancer cells. Researchers hope their study will eventually lead to a non- toxic way to treat CLL. This type of leukemia can only be treated with chemotherapy, but when older patients are diagnosed with early stages of CLL (a cancer that mostly affects people over the age of 60), some doctors choose to monitor the slow-growing disease before subjecting a patient to unnecessary (and harsh) treatments. The Mayo team believes that EGCG could be an effective, low-impact treatment for early stage CLL.

Comment:  It's truly amazing how western medicine is starting to see the light when it comes to eastern medicine.  Maybe one day, medicine and insurance companies will create two categories - disease care and health care.  An article I will include in next month's menu talks about how multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies refuse to look at disease prevention because it would not be good for business.
